I seek your support as an original cosponsor of the “Made In America Act,” which I will be introducing with Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).
Each year, the federal government spends billions funding infrastructure projects not subject to “Buy American” requirements under current law. The result is American taxpayer dollars being used to buy foreign products made by workers in other
countries: work that can and should be done domestically by U.S. workers.
The “Made In America Act” would fix this by:
- Implementing “Buy American” requirements for an estimated $10 billion annually spent on various federal infrastructure programs (USDA Rural Development, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, etc.) not
currently subject to such requirements.
- Requiring that all commodities and building materials funded under these federal infrastructure programs be produced, manufactured, and processed in the United States.
- Directing the Commerce Department to set stricter, uniform “American made” standards needed to meet the Buy American requirements across all federal infrastructure programs.
I hope to earn your support as original cosponsors of this bicameral legislation to strengthen “Buy American” requirements across major federal infrastructure programs currently lacking them. The “Made In America Act” will put skilled American
workers back to work rebuilding our great nation’s outdated and crumbling infrastructure.
To be added as a cosponsor or for questions, please have your staff contact
Iain.Hart@mail.house.gov in my office. Thank you for your consideration.
