Protect Vascular Access Preservation Services

Deadline to Sign: May 22

Current Cosigners: Yvette Clarke, Jim McGovern, Joaquin Castro

Dear Colleague,

Please join our letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to protect vascular access preservation services for patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

Vascular accesses are the entry points on an ESRD patient’s body that allow the patient to receive dialysis treatment. ESRD patients must receive preservation services to maintain the fistula over time.

Last year, CMS proposed reducing reimbursement rates for vascular access preservation services in Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC) to match the Physician Fee Schedule. This decision would have reduced access to vascular access preservation services, and
a group of 27 bipartisan Representatives sent a letter to HHS expressing these concerns.

While CMS chose not to implement this policy last year, it also stated that it would consider implementing the policy in the future. Our letter asks CMS to refrain from cutting ASC payments for vascular access preservation in the upcoming 2020 ASC Proposed
Rule and to instead protect vital vascular access services for ESRD patients.

We welcome your support for this bipartisan letter. To join, please contact Joe McNally in Congresswoman Dingell’s office (joe.mcnally@mail.house.gov) or Greg Brooks in Congressman Wenstrup’s office (greg.brooks@mail.house.gov).

Sincerely,

Debbie Dingell                                                Brad Wenstrup
