Dear Colleague:

The PAID AD Act, a bipartisan bill I proudly introduced with my colleague Rep. Elise Stefanik, would prevent Russia and any other foreign entity from interfering in our democratic elections.
I invite you to join me in this important effort by cosponsoring the PAID AD Act.

The release of the Mueller report makes it clear that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in systemic fashion. The report discloses that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election by carrying out a social media campaign
that favored presidential candidate Donald Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. We must close this loophole in our current campaign finance laws that allows foreign governments and foreign nationals to influence American elections through
campaign ads.

Right now, a foreign entity can legally buy an ad through social media that supports or attacks a candidate. Right now, a foreign entity can legally purchase an ad that focuses on an issue of legislative importance. This bill would amend the Federal
Election Campaign Act (FECA) to prohibit a foreign entity from buying a campaign ad on digital or TV that supports or attacks a candidate or from buying an ad that focuses on an issue meant to divide us rather than unite us.

If you have any questions or would like to cosponsor this legislation, please contact my Deputy Chief of Staff, Danielle Most, at 5-4872 or
Danielle.most@mail.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Elissa Slotkin (MI-08)
