Sending Office: Honorable Paul A. Gosar
Join the Congressional Gulf War Veterans Caucus
We would like to invite you to join the Congressional Gulf War Veterans Caucus for the 116th Congress.
We founded the Congressional Gulf War Veterans Caucus to serve as a group of members dedicated to issues related to Gulf War Veterans.
The caucus provides the opportunity for Members of Congress to exchange views on the current and future state of Gulf War Veterans health care and benefits.
Nearly 700,000 men and women served in the Persian Gulf during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the early 1990s.
Approximately 20 years later, Veterans continue to report poorer health than those who served at the same time but did not serve in the Gulf.
Gulf War related exposures from 1990 and on include a variety of potentially harmful substances:
pesticides; pyridostigmine bromide (anti-nerve agent); infectious diseases; chemical and biological warfare agents; vaccinations (including anthrax and botulinum toxoid); oil-well fires, smoke, and petroleum; and depleted uranium.
Consequently, a 2016 epidemiological study found that as many as 300,000 Veterans, nearly 44 percent (about 4 in 10) of those who deployed to the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield and Desert Storm
are now estimated to have Gulf War Illness (GWI).
GWI can be difficult to diagnose and treat. The Gulf War Veterans Caucus wants to raise awareness and improve ways to support Gulf War Veterans.
We hope you will consider joining this caucus and help us ensure Gulf War Veterans receive the health care and benefits they deserve.
