Please join me in becoming an original co-sponsor of legislation that would reinstate and make permanent
miscellaneous itemized deductions. These deductions were suspended for taxable years 2018 through 2025 in the Republican “tax cuts.”
Under the Republican tax overhaul, taxpayers are now unable to deduct unreimbursed job expenses that they
pay out of their own pocket. These deductions— which covered the cost of tools and supplies, work clothes and uniforms, work-related travel, transportation and meal expenses, union dues, dues to professional societies, and home office expenses—were a direct
benefit to many middle class workers. According to IRS data, in Pennsylvania alone, 1.8 million taxpayers claimed miscellaneous itemized deductions in 2016. Immediate reinstatement of these deductions are necessary for our nurses, salespeople, and unionized
workers, all of whom unfairly bear the burden of the Republican tax overhaul.
Please contact Zach Fowler (Zach.Fowler@mail.house.gov) to co-sponsor this legislation or if you
have any questions.
