Sending Office: Honorable David N. Cicilline
Cosponsor the DISCLOSE Act of 2019
116th Cosponsors: Barragán, Beatty, Cohen, Cooper, Demings, Espaillat, Gabbard, Lowenthal, Norton, Peters, Roybal-Allard, Sarbanes, Schiff,
Each day more Americans are losing faith that their federal government actually works for them. More than 80% of Americans say they can’t trust Washington to do what’s right for them. They feel like they their seat at the table has been sold to of corporate
special interests and the wealthy. The new Democrat Congress has shown our commitment to delivering real reforms to our political system that will restore a government of, by, and for the people of this great country. That starts with fixing the way campaigns
are run in this country. We need to break the stranglehold that secret corporate spending has placed over our elections.
Please join me as an original cosponsor of the Disclosure of Information on Spending on Campaigns Leads to Open and Secure Elections Act of 2019 (DISCLOSE Act) to address our broken campaign finance system and combat the harmful effects of dark
money. This updated version of the DISCLOSE Act is identical to the DISCLOSE Act and the Stand By Every Ad Act as included in the For the People Act (H.R. 1,)
As in the previous version (H.R.6239 in the 115th Congress) , this legislation will require all corporations, unions and other groups to report, within 24 hours, campaign expenditures of $10,000 or more to the Federal Election Commission and to disclose
all campaign-related expenditures to their shareholders and members. This legislation would also strengthen the foreign money ban by prohibiting foreign nationals from participating in decision-making about corporate campaign spending. Finally, this bill
would create a ‘stand by your ad’ provision so that groups who are running and funding a political advertisement must state that they “approve this message.”
If you have any questions or would like to become a cosponsor of the DISCLOSE Act of 2019, please contact Renuka Nagaraj (Renuka.Nagaraj@mail.house.gov; x65230).
