Sending Office: Honorable Troy Balderson
I invite you to become a cosponsor of the Accelerated Payments for Small Businesses Act (H.R. 2322). Representatives Houlahan, Crow, Chabot, Espaillat, and I introduced this bipartisan bill this week to provide small businesses with expedited payments by
directing the federal government to pay small business contractors within 15 days instead of the current 30-day standard.
This bill simply directs federal agencies to accelerate payments made to small business prime contractors with the goal of 15 days of receipt of a proper invoice. It also directs agencies to accelerate payments made to prime contractors that subcontract
to small businesses.
The goal of this legislation is to ensure the government pays its small business contractors in an expeditious manner, providing the monetary certainty essential for small businesses. While large corporations do not have the same concerns about maintaining
cash-on-hand from month to month, small business contractors and subcontractors often rely on faster payments in order to survive. Small businesses require accelerated payments to engage in new projects, pay their employees, and stay afloat. The current 30-day
timeline leaves small businesses without a vital source of income for a full month, severely disadvantaging them. By accelerating the payment to 15 days, small businesses can begin planning new contracts, hiring more people, and growing their companies.
I invite you to join me, along with colleagues from both sides of the aisle, in helping small businesses across America. If you would like to cosponsor this legislation or have any questions, please reach out to Austin Piatt on my staff at
