Stand Up for LGBT People in Brunei
Cosponsor H.Res. 289, a Resolution Condemning Brunei’s Anti-LGBT Penal Code

Please join me in supporting the rights of LGBT people in the Nation of Brunei. The country’s brutal new penal code went into effect on April 3, 2019. The law criminalizes LGBT people and imposes death by stoning on those who engage in the “crime” of same-sex
The State Department issued a statement saying that “the United States strongly opposes violence, criminalization and discrimination targeting vulnerable groups, including women at risk of violence, religious and ethnic minorities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender and intersex (LGBTI) persons.”
This resolution condemns the criminalization of LGBT individuals by Brunei and calls on the nation to reverse course immediately. It also directs the State Department to update its human rights reports to reflect the severity of Brunei’s new penal code.
I hope you will join me in condemning the criminalization of LGBT people in Brunei. If you have any questions or wish to cosponsor this important resolution, please contact Kate Huffman on my staff at (202) 225-2906 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
