        Request for Cosponsor(s)

Dear Colleague,

Please join us as a co-sponsor of H.Res. 273, which reaffirms U.S. commitment to Taiwan and the implementation of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA).

As we approach the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) on April 10, 2019, this is an important opportunity for the Congress to reiterate its leading role in defining and undergirding U.S. relationship with Taiwan, including Taiwan’s
democracy, security and economic prosperity.

The TRA and Six Assurances together serve as cornerstones for the U.S.-Taiwan relationship Over the past four decades, the United States and Taiwan have cultivated successful commercial, cultural, and security relations.

Today, Taiwan has become not only one of the most mature democracies in Asia, but an indispensable partner in promoting democracy, global health, aviation security and combating transnational threats.  Taiwan’s continued prosperity and leadership in contributing
to the rules-based global order is even more important today as it was 40 years ago.

As the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs,
we urge you to join us in cosponsoring this resolution and supporting Taiwan.

                                                                 Sincerely,

ELIOT L. ENGEL
Chairman
House Committee on Foreign Affairs
