Sending Office: Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission
We ask you to join us in sending a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo requesting the full implementation of key United States legislation on Tibet and calling on him to raise the human rights of the Tibetan people with the Chinese government at every
opportunity and at the highest levels.
March 10, 2019 marked the 60th anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan Uprising, when Tibetans took to the streets to protest Chinese rule in Tibet and to protect His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In the aftermath, thousands of Tibetans died and thousands
more were imprisoned without trial. His Holiness the Dalai Lama was forced to escape into exile in India and was later followed by tens of thousands more Tibetans who, like him, have been unable to return to their homeland. Over 150,000 Tibetan refugees now
live in settlements in India and Nepal, and in communities scattered across the world.
Today, the repression in Tibet continues unabated. In their latest Freedom in the World report, Freedom House ranked Tibet as one of the least free places in the world, in the company of countries such as Syria, North Korea and South Sudan.
