Congressional Biomedical Research Caucus Briefing:

Soaps, Vitamins, and the Microbiome: What’s the Real Truth Behind the Microbiome?

Monday, April 8, 2019
Noon-1:00 p.m.
Room 2075, Rayburn House Office Building

Boxed lunches will be available for attendees

Dear Colleague:

We want to draw your attention to an invitation you should have already received from the Coalition for the Life Sciences (CLS). On Monday, April 8th at 12:00 noon,
CLS cordially invites you to attend a briefing entitled “Soaps, Vitamins, and the Microbiome: What’s the Real Truth Behind the Microbiome?”
in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2075.

From soap to vitamins, every day we hear of products designed to protect our microbiome. But what exactly is the microbiome? Join Dr. Ami Bhatt as she delves into the invisible life that is critical to the proper functioning of the human body. Dr. Bhatt
will highlight how a complex ecosystem of microorganisms, or biome, contributes far more to our genetic diversity than do our own human genes.

We hope you will join the Congressional Biomedical Research Caucus for this exciting and timely discussion on the human interdependency on these organisms, and how the microbiome likely has a role in every aspect of our health, from growth and development,
to precision cancer therapy response, to mental health, and beyond. Please RSVP to Lynn Marquis at
cls@coalitionforlifesciences.org.

The Congressional Biomedical Research Caucus provides a forum where Members and staff can interact directly with preeminent researchers responsible for important scientific discoveries. Many of the stunning advances, made possible by NIH funding, highlighted
in these presentations have led to improved understanding of the cause, treatment, and prevention of human disease.

If you would like to join the Biomedical Research Caucus, please contact Mia Mazer (Mia.Mazer@mail.house.gov) in Congresswoman Speier’s office or Drew Hatter (Drew.Hatter@mail.house.gov) in Congressman Stivers’ office.

Sincerely,

Jackie Speier                 Steve Stivers                  Steve Cohen                  John Curtis
