1990. These recommendations greatly influence federal, state and local nutrition programs, as well as industry practices. The purpose of the guidelines is to promote eating habits and active lifestyles that improve the health of all Americans. This year the
guidelines will include recommendations for babies and pregnant mothers for the first time

TOMORROW: Briefing on Ending Violence and Saving Lives Through Providing Community De-Escalation Education and Training
By now, your office should have received an invitation from Black Women for Positive Change for a May 1st staff briefing on the important role that broad-based de-escalation training can play in helping to combat violence in our communities.
Among the speakers at the briefing will be community leaders, including the Police Chief of the District of Columbia, 100 Fathers Inc., and the National Black Nurses Association to talk about how Congress can help make our communities safer.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than 80 percent of military-connected children attend public schools. In 2011, the Government Accountability Office reported that data concerning the academic outcomes of these students
was limited. In response, the Every Student Succeeds Act included the military student identifier (MSI) to require that public schools identify and report on the academic outcomes of military-connected students.
