Dear Colleague,

I invite you to sign my letter (text below) to the House Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies requesting $5 million in funding for the 400 Years of African American History Commission. The Commission, established in November of 2018,
has been charged with the important task of planning programs around the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first documented Africans in the English colonies, coordinating research to study the contributions made by Africans since their arrival, and providing
grant funding to state and local organizations already pursuing similar projects. Unfortunately, without federal funding the Commission is struggling to accomplish these goals. Strong support from Congress is critical in ensuring the Commission’s success.

Deadline is COB Thursday, March 28. If you have any questions or would like to sign onto this letter, please contact Natalie Valentine (
