Dear Colleague:

We invite you to co-sponsor the Post-Disaster Assistance Online Accountability Act of 2019 (H.R. 1307). This bill would provide an innovative and comprehensive approach to
tracking Federal disaster projects and assistance. It would establish a single online repository to report information about Federal disaster assistance and provide transparency to the American taxpayers.           

Working in collaboration with the Project on Government Oversight (POGO), this bill would establish a subpage for transparency of disaster assistance on It would also require agencies that offered disaster assistance to submit that information to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and ensure that the data is available to the public on the
new subpage in a
machine-readable format

The data would include: 1) the amount of disaster assistance provided by the agency in a quarter; 2) the amount of disaster assistance expended or obligated to projects or activities; 3) a detailed list of all projects or activities for which disaster assistance
dispersed by the agency was expended, obligated, or used, etc. The bill would also allow OMB to enter into an agreement with a private entity or nonprofit to develop the subpage, if necessary.

One of Congress’ most important responsibilities is to conduct oversight and steward taxpayer resources. We believe this bill will provide transparency to better track Federal disaster assistance, ensure Congressional oversight, and help Congress steward tax
