Become an Original Cosponsor of the No Taxpayer Funding for the Wall Act
We are introducing it on the eve of Trump’s SOTU address
Deadline: Monday, February 4
Current cosponsors: Rep. Wasserman Schultz, Rep. F. Wilson, Rep. Clarke
I invite you to be an original cosponsor of the No Taxpayer Funding for the Wall Act,
We are all aware of President Trump’s promise to make Mexico pay for the wall that he plans to build along our southern border. This bill would hold him to that promise by prohibiting the use of any federal funds for the construction of the wall while allowing
him to seek funding from Mexico or any other country to do so.
Like mine, your offices have probably heard from incensed constituents who do not want a single dime of federal taxpayer money going forward to pay for this boondoggle, which even President Trump’s former Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security,
who was once one of his most trusted advisors, questioned in congressional testimony. John Kelly noted, as we all know, that border security requires much more than a wall. He testified that “A physical barrier in and of itself—certainly as a military person
that understands defense and defenses— a physical barrier in and of itself will not do the job, it has to be really a layered defense.”
It is our priority as leaders to maintain strong border security, ensure the safety of Americans, and guarantee that tax dollars are used appropriately, especially during tight fiscal times. President Trump’s plan to build a wall does nothing to further
this mission, nor secure the border. Instead, the wall would be entirely ineffective and a monumental waste of taxpayer dollars that could be better used to advance meaningful measures to feed, educate, and provide health care services to millions of Americans,
including veterans, children, and seniors.
As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, this bill sends a clear and unmistakable message to President Trump that we will not allow taxpayer dollars to pay for his wall. To join me as an original cosponsor of this bill, please contact Talia Rosen
