Sending Office: Honorable Glenn Grothman
Please join in me becoming a cosponsor of my bill to end future government shutdowns. My bill will simply enact an automatic continuing resolution at the previous year’s funding levels in the event that Congress fails to pass an appropriation bill beginning
October 1st, 2019. It is obvious that Congress needs budget reform to improve the fiscal situation within our economy.
Since the beginning of our current budget and appropriations process, Congress has failed to accomplish its fundamental responsibility of funding the federal government 22 times. The
End Government Shutdowns Act will promote stability in the budgeting process and assure markets. Government shutdowns don’t just cause temporary closures of government services but have lasting effect on the public and private sectors, and the economy
as well. In January 2014, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), estimated that the direct effect of the October 2013 government shutdown on the real GDP growth in the fourth quarter was a reduction of 0.3 percent. Our economy can no longer handle the uncertainty
of Congressional action.
For far too long, politicians on both sides of the aisle have put federal workers in harm’s way through the use of government shutdowns and other budget gimmicks. Our bill, the End Government Shutdowns Act, will eliminate federal shutdowns and force politicians
to work together to make the difficult decisions that we were elected to do.
If you have any further questions or wish to be added as a co-sponsor of the End Government Shutdowns Act, please contact my Vincent Giglierano in Rep. Glenn Grothman’s office (Vincent.Giglierano@mail.house.gov).
