Join the Congressional School Safety Caucus
Dear Colleague:
We invite you to join the bipartisan Congressional School Safety Caucus, a group of members who support promoting safe and secure learning environments for our nation’s students, teachers, administrators and parents.
Today, schools face unprecedented threats from security breaches, violence, natural disasters and fires. Schools and college campuses are uniquely vulnerable so it is essential to support advances in mental health education, construction, technological tools,
safety protocols and emergency preparedness. As Members of Congress, we are responsible for overseeing the preparedness of our nation’s education facilities and programs to mitigate evolving threats.
All too often, discussions on how lawmakers can address these challenges go nowhere. Meanwhile, education leaders are increasingly looking to facility security technology, safety procedures, mental health education, emergency communications and response
systems as effective, widely-accepted solutions to school security challenges. Schools often struggle with available resources and competing priorities to address unmet infrastructure needs, highlighted by the majority of school facilities today that lack
minimal security features. Additionally, many students lack any mental health education or treatment in their schools or communities, a result of inadequate investment in mental health in the U.S.
The Congressional School Safety Caucus brings together education, law enforcement, government and private sector leaders to discuss how we can work together in a bipartisan fashion to help protect our nation’s schools, and college campuses through education
on best practices, increasing awareness of available solutions, strategies to meet funding challenges and legislation that promotes the adoption of school safety and security measures.
To join the caucus, please contact Rob Hicks (Rep. Brooks) at 5-2276 or rob.hicks@mail.house.gov, or Katy Nazaretova (Rep. Larsen) 5-2605 or katy.nazaretova@mail.house.gov. Thank you for your support!
