        Request for Cosponsor(s)

January 10, 2019

Dear Colleague:

We ask you to join us in introducing legislation that would prevent Executive Branch political appointees from receiving pay raises during a government shutdown.

In the middle of the second-longest government shutdown in U.S. history, and while hundreds of thousands of federal workers are either furloughed or working without pay, Trump Administration senior appointees were set to receive a pay raise. OPM has since
issued guidance for agencies to hold off on issuing these raises; however, the unfortunate situation highlights how prudent it is to enact legislation barring political appointees from receiving raises while federal employees languish without pay.

To become an original cosponsor of the No Political Pay Raises During Shutdowns Act, or if you have any questions, please contact Tommy Brown in my office at
tommy.brown@mail.house.gov or by calling 5-4835. Deadline for original cosponsors is Thursday COB.

                                                            Sincerely,

                        Bradley S. Schneider                                      Sean Casten
