Sending Office: Honorable Al Green
The work of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) since its inception has shown the clear need to address the epidemic of
discrimination in lending. People of color have been disproportionately denied loans at a far greater rate than their white counterparts.
Fifty years after its passage, the Fair Housing Act remains a critical law to combat discrimination in lending. My bill builds on existing laws to ensure that those who violate fair lending laws are truly held accountable for engaging in practices that are
harmful to individuals, families and communities.
That is why we need H.R. 166, Fair Lending for All Act, a bill that would establish an Office of Fair Lending Testing to test financial institutions for compliance with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) and create criminal penalties for invidious discrimination
in lending. In order to hold predatory financial actors accountable, we must criminalize invidious discrimination in bank lending and strengthen our critical consumer protection laws.
I invite you to join me by becoming a cosponsor of the Fair Lending for All Act.
If you have any questions or would like to cosponsor this bill, please contact Tenzin in Rep. Al Green’s office at
