Task Force on Anti-Terrorism & Proliferation Financing Briefing: Banking on
War: Ending the abuse of South Sudan’s banking sector by political elites and pushing for peace

On behalf of the bipartisan Task Force on Anti-Terrorism & Proliferation Financing, we would like to invite you to a
briefing entitled: Banking on War: Ending the abuse of South Sudan’s banking sector by political elites and pushing for peace.

According to researcher Mark Ferullo, the same banks that you and I use to send money to a friend or to pay a bill can be indirectly used by kleptocrats in South Sudan to send their
ill-gotten gains abroad or buy opulent houses overseas. At this
briefing, Mark will explain the way through which South Sudan’s banks, which serve as the gateways
for the movement of the proceeds of corruption into the same banks we use, are interconnected in the global financial system and analyze the political influence which South Sudan accesses the global financial system.

Time and Location of Briefing:

Friday, November 30th, 2018 from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

HVC 210
