Sending Office: Honorable Mike Coffman
I invite you to join me in sending a letter to President Trump in support of Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
The deadline to join this letter is COB on Tuesday, October 23.
Secretary Mattis has always exhibited the professionalism and competence we expect of our military’s leaders, and his dedication to this country, and his independent spirit have made him an invaluable member of this
administration. Secretary Mattis is widely and deservedly respected on both sides of the aisle in Washington, by the American people, and by our overseas friends and enemies alike.
However, there have been rumors that President Trump may consider replacing Mattis. In an October 14
Wall Street Journal column, Nancy Youssef notes that Bob Woodward portrayed some difficulties between you and Secretary Mattis in his book, “Fear: Trump in the White House.” And in a recent
60 Minutes interview, you described Secretary Mattis as “sort of a Democrat” and speculated that he might leave “at some point.” The president also noted that “Gen. Mattis is a good guy,” a sentiment I wholeheartedly share. Secretary Mattis has apparently
also said he has no plans to resign. I hope all this discussion of a potential departure is merely idle media speculation.
It is important in any organization to have a diversity of opinions. Secretary Mattis has proven himself to be a leader of sound judgment and valuable experience, whose opinions on the defense of our nation I take
very seriously. It is my hope that Secretary Mattis is not in a hurry to leave the administration, and I likewise urge you to join me in encouraging President Trump to retain James Mattis as Secretary of Defense.
To join this letter, please reach out to
