American families and American workers are paying the price for inaction on infrastructure. In fact, the price of failing to build, maintain, and repair our infrastructure is costing American families $3,400 dollars each year and places 2.5 million jobs
in jeopardy between now and 2025.
One way to repair the state of our infrastructure is through innovation. Use of innovative construction techniques and materials in infrastructure leads to infrastructure projects that are safer, longer-lasting, and cost-effective. For the state of U.S.
infrastructure, that would mean fewer traffic fatalities, bridges collapsing, potholes on roads, and significantly less time and money spent on maintenance and repair.
That is why we invite you to cosponsor H.R. 6653, the Innovative Materials for America’s Growth and Infrastructure Newly Expanded (IMAGINE) Act, a bipartisan effort to drive research and use of innovative construction materials in surface and water infrastructure
projects. Specifically, the IMAGINE Act would:
· Provide $60 million for a grant program for the design and installation of innovative bridge projects;
· Provide $65 million for a grant program to use innovative materials in the design and installation of wastewater and drinking water systems in small to medium-sized communities;
· Provide $8 million to the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center to work with states and Tribal agencies to research and develop innovative materials; and
· Create an Interagency Task Force to assess existing standards and testing methods for innovative materials, identify barriers to entry, and develop new methods and protocols to better evaluate innovative materials.
The IMAGINE Act lays the foundation for the introduction of more sustainable materials and productive techniques as America rebuilds its infrastructure. Please join us as a cosponsor of this bill to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure. For more information
or to cosponsor this legislation, please contact Jessica Brown with Congresswoman Esty (Jessica.Brown@mail.house.gov or 202-225-4476) or Ryan McManus with Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (Ryan.McManus or 202-225-5136).
