The American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), the national trade association for disability service providers, cordially invites you to join a Congressional briefing on Wednesday, October 3rd. An expert panel will discuss the unique medical
and dental challenges of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the opportunities that would be created by designating this group as a Medically Underserved Population.

Sarah Meek, Director of Legislative Affairs at ANCOR

  • Dustin Plunkett, a consumer from California

  • Matt Holder, MD, Immediate Past President of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry and CEO of the Lee Specialty Clinic in Louisville, KY

  • Javier Vasquez, Vice President of Health at Special Olympics International

  • Amged Soliman, Attorney Advisor at the National Council on Disability

The Healthcare Extension and Accessibility for Developmentally disabled and Underserved Population Act of 2018, or HEADs UP Act, would designate people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) as a Medically Underserved Population
(MUP) under the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA). People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) experience poorer health, shortened life expectancies, and lack access to even the most basic forms of care when compared to
the non-disabled population. A designation as a MUP would help to close these gaps and achieve better health outcomes for the entire I/DD population.
This briefing will introduce you to the unique challenges people with I/DD face in accessing health care and how an MUP designation would aid in breaking down those barriers.
