September 20, 2018, will mark one year since Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. With nearly 3,000 lives lost, Hurricane Maria became the deadliest storm to make landfall in the U.S. since 1900. Given the magnitude
of loss and damage from Hurricane Maria, we must continue to consult with experts to better understand the ongoing needs of those impacted by this devastating storm.
Therefore, we cordially invite you and your staff to our Congressional conference on Hurricane Maria. The conference will feature expert panel presentations throughout the morning and early afternoon from non-governmental organizations, private sector organizations,
and academia. The conference will be an opportunity to hear from experts on Hurricane Maria’s impact, explore how the Federal government can improve its response and recovery efforts, and remember those who lost their lives in the storm.
Confirmed panelists will represent Airbnb, All Healers Mental Health Alliance, the Center for American Progress, Columbia University’s National Center for Disaster Preparedness, FedEx, Friends of Puerto Rico, the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, the Hispanic
Federation, Oxfam America, National Low Income Housing Coalition, the Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies, Refugees International, Save the Children, World Central Kitchen, and YWCA USA.
We hope you or a member of your staff will attend the conference.
