Dear Colleague:

As co-chair of the Multicultural Media Caucus and a champion of media diversity, I write to urge you to cosponsor a resolution commending Allison Alice Dunnigan. Ms. Dunnigan was a pioneering journalist who overcame poverty, sexism, and racism to become
the first African-American woman to receive press credentials to the White House, Congress, and Supreme Court. Ms. Dunnigan also served as Washington Bureau Chief for the Associate Press from 1947 until 1961, during which time she ensured that readers throughout
the nation were informed about how governmental decisions impacted their lives and fought to make sure that public officials made comments on the record about policies impacting minority communities in particular.

For questions or to sign on to this resolution, please contact Harry Baumgarten and Charlyn Stanberry on my staff. They can be reached at and or by phone at (202) 225-6231.
