Every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.  Nationwide countless victims have said:
Enough.  We must join their efforts and take a hard stand against sexual assault and domestic violence. Today, I ask you to stand up for our servicemembers who have been victims of domestic violence, and too often don’t know how to find help.

That is why I am introducing the Violence Against Women Veterans Act. My bill aims to combat the epidemic of domestic violence that is much too common in our country today. The bill is the House version of S. 1111, introduced by Senator Jeanne Shaheen
(D-NH) in May.  The legislation seeks to improve the services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by requiring an integration of those services with proven, existing community-based programs that serve domestic violence or sexual assault victims.

The bill also establishes a National Task Force on Domestic Violence to gather information on how to best provide comprehensive support to our veterans, and seeks to create a network of local coordinators that facilitate cooperation between the VA and social
services, and assist domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers in providing services to veterans.

I hope you will join me and provide veterans with the healthcare that they deserve. To become an original cosponsor, view language, or for more information, please contact Jacob Hochberg on my staff at
