Members-Only Coffee & Conversation Marking the National Day of Civility
TOMORROW, Thursday, July 12th from 8:00am to 9:00am
Gold Room (Rayburn 2168)
You are invited to join a members-only coffee and conversation
tomorrow, Thursday, July 12th from 8:00am – 9:00am in the Gold Room (Rayburn 2168) to mark the
National Day of Civility.
Please show your support by participating in this informal coffee and conversation to join our effort to recognize July 12th as the National Day of Civility and the importance of civility in public discourse. Through relationship-building, Congress can lead
by example in helping revive civility. We also encourage members to lift up the National Day of Civility through floor speeches and social media on July 12th. For those interested in participating in the
#NationalDayofCivility Tweetstorm from 1-2pm on July 12th, there will be “Golden Rule” wristbands and a photo opportunity with colleagues from across the political spectrum at the morning event.
As public officials, we have a responsibility to act – and to lead by example. As co-founders and co-chairs of the Honor and Civility Caucus, we introduced
H.Res.400 to create a National Day of Civility to be observed on July 12th (7/12). The date comes from Matthew 7:12, which reads “in everything, do
to others what you would have them do to you.” It’s the Golden Rule. In our civil discourse, we must strive to disagree without being disagreeable and practice the Golden Rule every day.
To participate or ask questions, please contact Ruth Ward (caucus staff) at 5-2777 or via email at
