Dear Colleague:

I hope you and your staff will join the National Coalition on School Diversity for a briefing on school integration efforts.

K-12 education is more segregated now than at any time since 1970
, but there’s a growing movement to change that trajectory.  The briefing will focus on the threats to integration from across the country and potential solutions from the local, state and
federal levels.

Damon Hewitt, Senior Advisor at the Open Society Foundation, will moderate this discussion among the following panelists:

  • James Ford

Independent Consultant, Filling the Gap Educational Consultants, LLC

  • Erica Frankenberg

       Associate Professor, Pennsylvania State University

Director, PSU Center for Education and Civil Rights

  • Cara McClellan

Skadden Fellow, NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund

  • Zahava Stadler

Director of Policy and Research, EdBuild

With the administration’s
recent rescission
of the
2011 Guidance on the Voluntary Use of Race to Achieve Diversity and Avoid Racial Isolation in Elementary and Secondary Schools
and continued attacks on civil rights enforcement, this discussion is especially important and timely.

If you have any questions, please contact Jacque Mosely, Director of Education Policy for Democratic staff of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, at

This briefing is open to all congressional staff.
