I invite you to become a cosponsor of H.J.Res.95, expressing support for the designation of September 2017 as “Gospel Music Heritage Month”, for gospel music’s valuable and longstanding contributions to American society.
Gospel music has been a long-established and prevalent aspect of American society for many years, spanning decades, generations, and races. The history of gospel music can be traced to African-American spirituals, and Irish folk songs and hymns. Some of
the most famous voices in American musical history have recorded gospel music, including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Mariah Carey, and Bob Dylan. Gospel music has influenced rock and roll, country, soul, rhythm, and blues.
Each September, the Kennedy Center hosts the Evolution of Gospel, a star-studded event which celebrates the history of gospel music. I invite you to become a co-sponsor of H.J.Res.95, which officially designates September as Gospel Music Heritage
To become a co-sponsor of H.J.Res.95, please contact Lillie Coney of my staff at Lillie.Coney@mail.house.gov or at (202) 225-3816.
