Sending Office: Bordallo, Madeleine Z.
We invite you to cosponsor
H.R.5697, the “Wildlife Conservation and Anti-Trafficking Act of 2018.” This bipartisan bill will:
Strengthen federal enforcement against poachers, traffickers, and the global trade in illegal wildlife and seafood products;
Engage and incentivize whistleblowers in the fight to bring down global wildlife trafficking rings;
Provide dedicated funding for wildlife, marine mammal, sea/freshwater turtle, and shark conservation
at no expense to American taxpayers; and
Build upon the
Eliminate, Neutralize, and Disrupt (END) Wildlife Trafficking Act of 2016, enacted into law last Congress.
H.R.5697 includes enforcement provisions passed by the House in November 2015 by voice vote, which will empower federal law enforcement to combat the growing wildlife trafficking
trade linked to transnational criminal organizations and even terrorist groups. Wildlife trafficking, poaching, and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing rank among the top global crimes, generating billions in illicit profits each year for groups
responsible for human rights abuses, weapons and narcotics trafficking, and political corruption.
Cosponsors: Reps. Don Young (R-AK), Eliot Engel (D-NY)
Endorsements: World Wildlife Fund (WWF), National Whistleblower Center, African Wildlife Foundation, Humane Society Legislative Fund, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Center for Biological Diversity, Oceana, Sea Turtle Conservancy,
Animal Welfare Institute, Wildlife Conservation Society, Association of Zoos & Aquariums
