Since the Civil War, the Battlefield Cross, depicted as a soldier’s boots, helmet, dog tag, and inverted rifle, has stood in cemeteries across the nation to honor and remember the soldiers who fell fighting on the battlefront. Unfortunately, recent guidance
from the Veterans Administration has led to the removal of memorial monuments featuring “actual or realistic replicas of ordnance,” resulting in the removal of Battlefield Crosses memorials in numerous national cemeteries.

The Fallen Warrior Battlefield Cross Memorial Act would protect these sacred symbols, which honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. It explicitly bars the Secretary of Veterans Affairs from removing Battlefield Crosses from our nation’s national
cemeteries, ensuring these memorial monuments may remain as tributes to our fallen soldiers.

Please join my colleagues and become a co-sponsor of this bipartisan legislation to protect this important symbol of a soldier’s sacrifice. Senators Portman and Brown have introduced companion legislation, S. 2280, in the Senate.

To become a cosponsor of this legislation, please contact Shane Hand in Congressman Renacci’s office at
