Join Bipartisan Letter Urging Trump to Condemn Turkish Aggression in Eastern Mediterranean

Cosigners: Pallone, Bilirakis, Sarbanes, McGovern, Deutch,
Poe

Dear Colleague,

Please join us in sending a letter to President Trump, urging him to condemn acts of aggression taken by the Republic of Turkey in Cyprus’s sovereign territory and to reassert the right of Cyprus to develop its hydrocarbon resources. Cyprus, the United States,
and other important U.S. trade partners in the region have a longstanding and enduring partnership in the Eastern Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the region has been destabilized in recent years by the increasingly autocratic regime of President Recep Tayyip
Erdogan.

In 2017, Turkey attempted to expand its claim on hydrocarbon resources within Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on several occasions and greatly intensified its military presence in the area. On February 11 and in subsequent exchanges since, the Turkish
military has harassed vessels that were licensed and hired by companies to explore hydrocarbon reserves in Cyprus’s EEZ. These aggressive actions, and the myriad of other Turkish transgressions in the Eastern Mediterranean, deserve a more forthright condemnation
by the administration.

We cannot stand by as trade partners, allies, and friends endure consistent harassment from the Erdogan regime. We encourage you to join us in asking the President to take a stand on this important issue. To sign on, please contact: James.Johnson@mail.house.gov (Pallone), Shayne.Woods@mail.house.gov (Bilirakis),
or Peter.Gelman@mail.house.gov (Sarbanes).

Sincerely,

FRANK PALLONE, JR.     GUS BILIRAKIS           JOHN SARBANES
