in the Violence Against Women Act. This month we seek to raise awareness of domestic violence homicide prevention strategies and firearm protocols.

Panelists: Ruth Glenn, CEO and President of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
Judge Roberto Canas – Dallas County Specialized Criminal Domestic Violence Court
Ruth Glenn, President and CEO of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will share her story as a domestic violence survivor of gun violence. She will discuss the challenges she faced with the legal system and make recommendations
that would protect future victims. As an advocate and a former State Administrator in Colorado, she will discuss the importance of changing laws to give the courts and law enforcement agencies critical tools to keep guns out of the hands of abusers.
Judge Roberto Canas presides over County Criminal Court #10 (a Specialized Criminal Domestic Violence Court created by the DOJ’s Office on Violence Against Women) in Dallas, Texas. In 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice named Canas’ court
a Domestic Violence Mentor court for exhibiting best practices – one of only six in the nation. Judge Canas is on the faculty of the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence where he trains judges around the country how adjudicate domestic violence

About the Bipartisan Working Group to End Domestic Violence
Mission: Convene a bipartisan group of members of Congress and key stakeholders who are dedicated to ending domestic violence, creating innovative prevention strategies, and strengthening resources for survivors and their children.
Meetings: One-hour monthly meetings will invite experts to explore the policy implications of domestic violence and ways Congress can craft legislative improvements for survivors and prevention programs for future generations.
