Dear Colleague,

Today the American Brain Coalition and the Dyspraxia Foundation USA, in cooperation with the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus, are hosting a briefing on “Kids with Brain Disorders: Getting Diagnosis and Correct Treatment.” This briefing
will explore what kind of information is needed about complex childhood brain disorders to help us diagnose, treat, and ultimately make the difference in life of patients using Dyspraxia as case study.

Two patient advocates, Ms. Leigh-Allyn Baker and Mr. John Shattuck, will give first hand portrayals as parents of children with Dyspraxia, a neurological disorder that results in impaired motor, memory, judgment, processing, and other cognitive
skills. The will speak to the need for research, early intervention, and coordinated care for childhood brain disorders. Ms. Baker is an actress and voice artist best known for her recurring role of “Ellen” on
Will & Grace and as “Amy Duncan” on the Disney Channel sitcom Good Luck Charlie. Mr. Shattuck is a business owner, military veteran, and Goodwill Ambassador.

This event will also feature Dr. Gary W. Goldstein, M.D., the President and Chief Executive Officer of Kennedy Krieger Institute which serves children and young adults with a wide variety of neurologic disabilities. He is also a Professor
of neurology and pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a professor of environmental health sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.
