        Request for Cosponsor(s)

Current cosponsors (5): Wilson (FL), Ros-Lehtinen, Rosen, Sewell, and Pingree.

Dear Colleague:

In honor of National Nurses Week, I invite you to become a cosponsor of H.R. 5251, the
Nurses for Under-Resourced Schools Everywhere Act, or NURSE Act. This bill would provide federal grants to school districts, boards, and state educational agencies to reduce the cost of hiring a nurse in public elementary
and secondary schools. Eligible entities could apply for the grants if at least 20 percent of students within their jurisdictions are eligible for low-cost or free school lunch under the National School Lunch Program. A
state-by-state breakdown of participation in the National School Lunch Program from the Food and Nutrition Service within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows
that thousands of students could benefit from the grants afforded by this bill.

School nurses are on the front lines of promoting wellness, managing chronic diseases, administering medication, and addressing issues that affect students in and out of the classroom. But many schools do not have a full-time nurse or enough nurses to care
for all students. Besides caring for thousands of students at a single school, many nurses also travel from school to school in order to care for as many children as possible. This bill will ensure that there are more medical professionals focusing on smaller
numbers of students.

Healthier students are better prepared to learn. I hope you will join me as a cosponsor of this important piece of legislation. For more information, or to become a cosponsor, please contact Christine Godinez with my office at
Christine.godinez@mail.house.gov or at 202-225-5965.

Sincerely,

Dina Titus
