Hunger in America
Friday, May 25
Lunch will be served
Hunger in the United States is often hidden but remains prevalent. More than 41 million Americans struggle with hunger in every Congressional district in every state. In order to solve the problem, it is important to first understand the problem of food
insecurity. Map the Meal Gap is the annual study conducted by Feeding America to better understand the root causes of hunger, to better work alongside the 200 food banks in the Feeding America network to eradicate hunger in America.
Please join us for a discussion of the causes of food insecurity across the country and learn how Congressional staff can utilize the Map the Meal Gap tool to better understand issues impacting their district. Panelists will explain the causes of food insecurity
including access to nutritious food, housing costs, unemployment, and poverty. Food banks will discuss what food insecurity looks like in their communities, and Congressional staffers will also be on hand to discuss ways they have found the Map the Meal Gap
useful in their work.
