Protect Boxers with Minimum Health & Safety Standards!

Cosponsor Professional Boxing Safety Enhancement Act of 2018

Endorsed by the International Boxing Federation/United States Boxing Association

Dear Colleague,

Please join me in following the advice of medical professionals and help protect the health and safety of boxers by updating the 22-year-old Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996 by cosponsoring the
Professional Boxing Safety Enhancement Act of 2018.

Created to improve and expand the nationwide safety requirements for professional boxing, the original Act established minimum standards applying to all professional matches. The Act required all states to conduct physical examinations of each boxer; have
a ringside physician, ambulance or medical personnel continuously on site for all matches; and provide boxers with health insurance.

Since the adoption of the law, and to respond to new health risks, the Association of Ringside Physicians and the Association of Boxing Commissions have recommended additional minimum health and safety standards, most particularly that boxers seeking to
be certified provide to state boxing commissions test results showing they are negative for HIV and Hepatitis.

I hope you will join me in your concurrence with this recommendation and cosponsor the
Professional Boxing Safety Enhancement Act of 2018, updating the 22-year-old regulations to guarantee we continue to protect boxers.
