Sending Office: Honorable Earl Blumenauer
The Brat-Blumenauer-Titus Amendment #24 would reform checkoff programs to 1) inject a reasonable amount of transparency and accountability into checkoff programs and 2) prevent government lobbying and anticompetitive activities.
Big Ag is claiming that this amendment would prevent universities from conducting research.
This is FALSE.
The only research that would be prevented would be research conducted with the specific intention that the results be
used by the university to lobby for particular legislation. This has been confirmed by legislative counsel.
Our amendment would bring much needed reforms to checkoff programs, which lack transparency, and have a history of waste, fraud, and abuse. I urge you to support the Brat-Blumenauer-Titus Amendment #24 to reform checkoff programs.
