        Request for Cosponsor(s)

Recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

Stand with Sexual Assault Survivors and cosponsor the resolution to designate April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

Supported by: the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (NAESV) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, and Rape & Incest national Network (RAINN)

Dear Colleague,

Stand with us to say NO MORE to sexual assault by cosponsoring our bipartisan resolution recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

Every 98 seconds another American is sexually assaulted – an average of over 320,000 victims per year. Less than half of those victims will report their attack to law enforcement, making sexual assault the most underreported violent crime. We urge you to
cosponsor this resolution and stand up for the countless women, men, and children who have been victims of these heinous crimes.

As Members of Congress, we are uniquely positioned to speak out on behalf of survivors and bring attention and awareness to this critical issue. When one in five women will be raped in their lifetime, we cannot afford to let survivors live in shame and in
the shadows any longer. This serious issue deserves our attention and we urge you to stand with us and countless sexual assault survivors nationwide to educate others about sexual assault and call for action to address this horrible epidemic.

To sign on as an original cosponsor, please have your staff contact Samara Brown at
Samara.Brown@mail.house.gov with Rep. Reed or Molly Fishman at
Molly.Fishman@mail.house.gov with Rep. Speier.

Sincerely,

Tom Reed                                                                    Jackie Speier
