America’s universities and research institutions are the foundation of our high-tech industry, and our venture capitalists and entrepreneurs are the best in the world. We need to ensure scientific breakthroughs are translated into commercial applications
to strengthen our economy, create jobs, and improve our lives.
There are many businesses and manufacturing companies throughout the U.S. that would like to harness the latest advancements in clean energy technology and advanced manufacturing processes to improve their products, services, or processes. At the same time,
we have many innovations in the clean technology arena that remain on the lab bench. Businesses and manufacturing companies often lack the capital needed to harness these technologies, and R&D centers often lack the ability to commercialize their ideas.
The bicameral Consortia-Led Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Networks Act will create clean technology and advanced manufacturing consortia to serve as commercialization centers to enhance the economic, environmental, and energy security
of the U.S. by promoting domestic development, manufacture, and deployment of clean technologies and advanced manufacturing processes. These consortia will engage in the translational research and development needed to jump the gap from lab bench to store
The bill would create a program in the Department of Commerce to provide up to $100 million in grants toward founding at least 6 new consortia dedicated to commercializing cutting-edge clean energy technology. Consortia will include a mix of research universities,
businesses, national laboratories, venture capitalists, state entities, and non-profits with expertise in technology commercialization. Designed a public-private partnerships, the bill includes rigorous cost-sharing requirements to ensure that private industry
is working together with our government to spur innovation and entrepreneurship.
I encourage you to support the Consortia-Led Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Networks Act. For more information on this bill or to become a cosponsor, please contact Jeremy Marcus (firstname.lastname@example.org,
