Cosponsor the Prince Hall Freemasonry Stamp Act
I invite you to cosponsor H.R. 152, the Prince Hall Freemasonry Stamp Act. During the American Revolutionary War, Prince Hall and fourteen other men of color were rejected by the colonial Freemasonry on the basis of race. As a result,
Hall founded the first Black Masonic Lodge. The Prince Hall Freemasonry Lodge, originally created for freed slaves, has made history as the oldest and largest group of black Masons. It marks one of the many feats African-Americans have faced in the fight for
fairness and representation throughout history.
This is why I have introduced H.R. 152, the Prince Hall Freemasonry Stamp Act. We must not only work to create understanding of our country’s history, but also ensure that we recognize the efforts of noteworthy figures, such as
Prince Hall, and the historic moments that should continue in living memory.
H.R. 152, the Prince Hall Freemasonry Stamp Act would:
- Provide for the issuance of a forever stamp to recognize the historical importance of Prince Hall Freemasonry.
