2043 Rayburn HOB
Please join me and the Arms Control Association, Council on Korea Americans, and Peace Action (formerly SANE/Freeze) for a special briefing exploring the precarious nuclear and national security situation on the Korean Peninsula.
The luncheon briefing will be held on February 15th at 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in 2043 Rayburn HOB.
According to many experts, not since the Cuban missile crisis, has the United States been as close to possibly using nuclear weapons in a military confrontation as it is today with North Korea. Tensions and threats have been escalating between
the two nations for months. Currently, the PyeongChang Winter Olympics underway in South Korea, with its “Olympic Truce” between North and South Korea in place, offers a pause in the escalating tension. This allows all of us to use this opportunity to reflect
on the current situation and the various options for U.S. policy in the months ahead. What might be the options and solutions to the current crisis?
Please take this opportunity to hear the insights and views of a panel of experts on this question:
- Frank Aum, Senior Expert on North Korea, U.S. Institute of Peace
- Kelsey Davenport, Director of Nonproliferation Policy, Arms Control Association
- Jessica Lee, Director of Policy and Advocacy, Council of Korean Americans
- Dr. Jim Walsh, Senior Research Associate, MIT Security Studies Program
I encourage you to take the opportunity to attend this timely briefing. The briefing is open to Members of Congress, congressional staff, and interns. Please RSVP for the lunch at:
For further information regarding the briefing, please contact Paul Kawika Martin, Senior Director of Policy and Political Affairs at Peace Action, at
