Thursday, March 1st from 12:30 – 1:30 pm in H-144 of the United States Capitol.
All over the world, women are facing greater economic, agricultural, and health-related hardships arising from climate change. Climate change has led to scarcity, drought, food insecurity, and increased disease in many vulnerable communities. Women often
disproportionately face harmful effects through their influential roles in growing food, collecting vital resources, and providing for the economic wellbeing of their families and communities.
While women are bearing the brunt of climate change’s effects, they are often underrepresented in the development of climate change adaptation policy. However, women’s leadership has also been essential to progress within the environmental justice movement
and will be essential to building a comprehensive global strategy to fight climate change.
We will hear from distinguished panel of experts followed by robust discussion on women’s empowerment and leadership in the environmental justice movement and in the global response to climate change, as well as conflicts in the movement and barriers to
