Consequences of Immigration Enforcement on Children and Families

March 1, 2018             11:00 am – 12:00 pm         Rayburn 2103

In coordination with: We Belong Together, Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), Connecticut Students for a Dream

Dear Colleague,

President Trump’s executive orders on immigration enforcement and anti-immigrant rhetoric have driven a culture of fear and xenophobia that is harming immigrant communities.  We are now seeing the impact of these policies on children in mixed-status families,
whose physical and mental health, success in school and access to social services are under attack.

Accordingly, please join me in learning more about this timely and imperative topic at the upcoming briefing on March 1, 2018 at 11am in 2103 Rayburn.  A team of expert panelists will outline new research that reveals how the combination of fear from parent
separation, increased economic uncertainty, and restricted access to critical health and early childhood programs has increased toxic stress among children from mixed-status families.  Panelists include:

                Wendy Cervantes
Senior Policy Analyst, Immigration and Immigrant Families
Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) – Washington, DC

                Lanre Omojokun Falusi, MD, FAAP
                Pediatrician
Past President, American Academy of Pediatrics DC Chapter

                Jonathon Gonzalez-Cruz

Student Policy and Advocacy Organizer
Connecticut Students for a Dream – New Haven, CT

                Lenka and Fiorella
Immigrant Rights Leader and 11 year-old Daughter
Dreamers Mothers in Action and We Belong Together

                Cory Shindel
                Policy Associate
Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) – Washington, DC

It is our responsibility as lawmakers to protect all children and their families, regardless of their immigration status. I look forward to seeing you at this upcoming event.

Sincerely,

Rosa L. DeLauro
Member of Congress
