Sending Office: Honorable Mark Sanford
Last year, Congressman Sanford and Congressman LoBiondo introduced H.R. 2252 – the Coastal Economies Protection Act. This bill would suspend offshore drilling and all related activities in the waters off the East Coast for the next ten years.
A moratorium on offshore oil and gas development is a bipartisan idea. It has been supported in the past by republican and democratic presidents alike, and has been the standard for the East Coast for decades. Moreover, people from up and down the Atlantic
coast overwhelmingly oppose offshore drilling for the ways in which it would represent another costly mandate from Washington. This bill promotes the idea that government closest to the people generally governs best.
Offshore drilling poses a very real and very dangerous threat to tourism, quality of life, and our environment, and accordingly, we ask you to join us in cosponsoring H.R. 2252.
