Join the Congressional Cancer Survivors Caucus
Dear Colleague:
Please join me and my colleague Congressman Ted Poe by becoming a member of the bipartisan Congressional Cancer Survivors Caucus.
Cancer has touched nearly every person in the United States in some way. According to the National Cancer Institute, in 2017 alone over 1.6 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed and nearly 600,000 people will pass away from some form
of the disease. However, recent advances in cancer research and treatments have drastically improved the survival rate. In 2014, the number of people living beyond their cancer diagnosis topped 14.5 million and is expected to climb.
There have never been more survivors of cancer – from individuals who have personally experienced a cancer diagnoses, to those who have been caretakers, and people who have stood by loved ones as they undergo treatment. As two recent cancer
survivors, we hope to bring together people affected by cancer in any way to discuss how we together can work towards a future with even more survivors.
The Congressional Cancer Survivors Caucus will be an open forum to discuss policies, treatments, and future opportunities to destigmatize cancer as well as opportunities for improved communication between physicians and patients. The perspectives
of experts and all of us who have been affected by cancer are sure to complement each other.
If you have any questions or are interested in joining the Congressional Cancer Survivors Caucus, please contact Ethan Van Ness at 5-2095 or
ethan.vanness@mail.house.gov.
Sincerely,
Mark DeSaulnier Ted Poe
