Join the Bipartisan America the Beautiful Caucus

Dear Colleague:

We invite you to join the newly formed, bipartisan America the Beautiful Caucus in support of the scenic beauty of our country’s natural and man-made environments.  Our Caucus will encourage and support efforts to beautify our roadways, preserve parks and
open spaces, protect community character and promote economic development by advocating for the health of the visual environment all across the United States.

The 1965 White House Conference on Natural Beauty marked a recognition by President Johnson and Congress that legislative action was needed to protect an “America the Beautiful” that was rapidly disappearing.  The conference, along with that year’s Highway
Beautification Act, brought into public consciousness the need to preserve America’s scenic landscapes.  While progress has been made since then, there still exist many threats to our country’s visual resources and opportunities for members of Congress to
advocate for scenic beauty in their districts and all across America.

The America the Beautiful Caucus’ mission is to advocate for the scenic beauty of the country through efforts including, but not limited to:

  • Educating members and staff about ongoing work and opportunities to improve the visual character of the country’s natural and built environments;
  • Building upon the work already done to make America’s scenic byways and highways destinations sought out by both domestic and international travelers;
  • Promoting and supporting efforts to beautify roadsides through projects such as the planting of trees and wildflowers.

If you would like to join the caucus, or if you have any questions, please contact Ross Brennan in Congressman Cicilline’s office at
ross.brennan@mail.house.gov or Michael Edwards in Congressman Poe’s office at
michael.edwards@mail.house.gov.

Sincerely,

David Cicilline                                                                                   Ted Poe
