Request for Cosponsor(s)
Dear Colleague:
Current Cosponsors: Rep. Moulton, Rep. Cook, Rep. Heck
Current Supporting Organizations: American Association of Geographers (AAG), Association of Research Libraries (ARL), Dewberry, Esri, Google, National Association of Counties (NACo), National League of Cities (NLC), National States Geographic
Information Council (NSGIC), Tesla Government, United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), Women in GIS (WiGIS) and 27 others
I invite you to cosponsor the Geospatial Data Act (GDA) of 2017. A budget neutral bill that would help better prepare the United States to handle emergency preparedness plans, aid disaster relief efforts, bolster mapping capabilities, and maintain our national
infrastructure all while spurring innovation.
The GDA codifies OMB Circular A-16 which would bring oversight to federal agencies currently not following executive guidance regarding data management and accounting. In doing so, this bill would establish management standards to foster transparency and
accountability to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not being wasted on duplicative purchases.
This legislation advances our nation as a world leader in the use of geospatial data – a national asset, which government agencies and partners are using increasingly to meet their mission needs and broader needs of the nation.
For more information or to cosponsor, please contact Jefferson Deming at
jefferson.deming@mail.house.gov or 5-3772.
Sincerely,
Bruce Westerman
