Sending Office: Honorable K. Michael Conaway
By now you should have received an invitation from the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) for a briefing on the Free File program. As the Co-Chairs of the House Free File Caucus, we encourage you or your staff to attend
this briefing to learn more about the Free File program. This innovative, public-private partnership offers free online tax preparation and e-filing services to low- and moderate-income taxpayers at no cost to the government. The briefing will also provide
you with outreach materials to inform eligible taxpayers in your districts about how they may take advantage of this program.
IRS Free File Program Briefing Information
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Date: Thursday, December 7, 2017
Location: 1300 Longworth House Office Building
Since 2003, Free File (www.irs.gov/freefile) has donated over 30 million federal (and in many cases, state) tax returns to hard working American families. With over 100 million taxpayers eligible, Free File is an
outstanding complement to the other free tax preparation services like Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and AARP Tax-Aide.
The briefing is sponsored by the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) and will feature presentations by representatives from the Internal Revenue Service, the Free File Alliance, and community-based organizations providing Free File in their
communities. They will also provide information for you to use to communicate directly with your constituents.
We have personally seen the benefits of Free File in our communities and encourage you and your staff to attend the briefing. If you have any questions, please contact: Matthew Russell with Rep. K. Michael Conaway (x53605) or Ed Hill with Rep. G. K. Butterfield
