Cosponsor H.R. 2965, the Gas Pump Access Act

Dear Colleague,

I invite you to join me in cosponsoring H.R. 2965, the Gas Pump Access Act, to require all gas stations offering self-service to place a decal on each gas pump with the phone number of the gas station.

When disabled drivers need to refuel their vehicles, they are often presented with the challenge of getting the attention of a gas station employee for assistance. In order to get needed assistance, individuals with disabilities are left to honk their horn,
flash their lights, or push a button on the pump that is often out of reach. H.R. 2965 would allow an individual to pull right up to a pump and simply call the gas station to receive assistance.

Upon introduction, Ben Ritter, a member of Paralyzed Veterans of America and advocate who helped get similar legislation in Florida enacted, correctly said, “phone numbers on gas pumps is a simple, common sense and inexpensive way for gas stations to comply
with the 1990 federal law – the Americans with Disabilities Act – that requires all gas stations to provide free gas pumping assistance to qualified people with disabilities.” Today, unlike back in 1990, almost everyone owns a cell phone.

I urge you to join me in this effort. If you would like to cosponsor this bill or have any questions, please contact Hailey Hart in my office at or 5-1252.

With Much Respect,

Dennis A. Ross

Member of Congress
